(More customer reviews)I bought this when I was living in New Jersey. It is my first dehumidifier and I may have been expecting too much.

It removes plenty of moisture and works great. When the bucket is full it shuts itself off. You have the option of connecting it to a hose and let it run indefinitely with no water collection. Don't set it on max, because a room that is TOO dry is also uncomfortable. You can set it as low as 40% humidity, and can increase this in increments of 10% to Max.

Main problem is that it runs very hot. It will heat the room in which it is placed. On a hot humid day the last thing you want is a hotter dry day. This is not one of those units you would want to put in your bedroom.

It is not really quiet. I don't know if it is quieter than other dehumidifiers, but it produces the same amount of sound as a room air-conditioner.

I'm so "HOT" right now(pun intended). According to the description you would be led to believe that this unit is a bit more than a fan. There is absolutely no need for this product, it is absolutely unneccasary.It's less than a fan! A fan covers more area than this box of nothing.It is described as an air cooler that can handle approx 150 square feet.That's a lie! I called the company and they told me that depending on where you live it might not work! If you are in the market for something more than a fan this is not the product for you.The sad thing is I paid extra for shipping and I have to pay to send it back to them I'm gonna be out of 73 bucks!!!.Choose wisely.

(More customer reviews)I can't claim much previous experience with dehumidifiers, but this one did the job, and did it well. I used this thirsty beast to help suck up the excess water of a truly gross basement flood, and it made a big difference in the clean-up and with the general air quality. The set-up was simple, the 30-pint container was substantial, and there were no mechanical failures of any kind, in spite of the fact that I ran the dehumidifier pretty much non-stop.

Obviously, if you've suffered a huge amount of water damage, or you're living in the middle of a swamp or something, you'll want to think about a larger model, but I strongly recommend this brand.

(More customer reviews)I hoped this product would lower the humidity in my gun safe but was disappointed. My room dehumidifier had died and hope thismini dehumidifier would protect my guns. I placed it in my gun safe along with a humidity meter. Left it in there a couple of days and checked it. The meter on the outside of my safe read 67%, then read the meter in the safe 63%. Wow dropped 4%, closed the safe and let it go for a week and the meter read 65%. Even thought the window was purple indicating the humidifier was charged I plugged it in to recharge and once again would only drop humidity 2-4%. What a waste of money. If you bought this product get a humidity meter and check the humidity inside and outside your gun safe. My safe is an average sized safe.

By morning, the unit had collected nearly a gallon of water.That is the good part.The bad side is that this thing is NOISY.I read reviews on-line that said the unit is quite.I even read one that said it was as quite as an "average" fan.Lemme tell you, if your fans are that loud, it is time to change them out.This thing sounds like on older style window unit AC...seriously every bit as loud.Other reviews stated that when the pump kicked on the unit was unbearably noisy.I hate to inform anyone who doesn't know this.When you run a sump pump without any water in it to pump...it is going to be noisy.However, if you allow some water to get into the unit and allow it to work as it is supposed to, the pump is not even noticeable compared to the 747 like noise made by the fan unit.So, basically, the unit works well.Just don't plan on having any quite conversations in the same room as the dehumidifier.

(More customer reviews)I cannot get a window unit due to my window size, and this unit came with a window kit that fit my windows. It worked absolutely perfect for 2 months. Then, on a particularly hot day, the bucket filled up with water and the unit shut off. I drained all the water, which is an absolute pain in the rear to do due to the drain being less than half an inch off the floor. The unit leaks water like a faucet ever since, all over the floor. There is really no effective way to use it anymore. I ordered a different brand that doesn't have water leakage issues. I should have listened to all the reviews I read. I practically paid several hundred dollars for a few months use. What a waste. The unit cools great, but what good is that with water all over your carpet? Stay away from this product.UPDATE: The unit only leaks when moved. If the water reservoir fills up, and must be drained, the unit must be moved to do so because the drain plug is literally right on the floor and there is no pan or container you can get under it. The reservoir will fill eventually, the unit will have to be drained, will have to be moved, will leak. Once all the water leaks out that is going to leak the unit works great until its time to drain again. Like I said, it took 2 months before I had to drain, but this process was a major PIA. I would avoid this unit, but I still gave in another star because it does not leak except during the drainage process.

In fact, you can't leave them in there for (say) a week since they will get too moist. The cigars have to be transfered back to the humidor. The good thing is that if your humidor was a little dry, keeping the cigars in the travelling case will quickly put some moisture back in.

Only after filling the entire tray with ice and water chilled overnight does this thing have any cooling effect and even than, it's only for an hour or so.

Anything less then ice and ice water will do nothing more than generate humidity and waste power.

Save your money and buy a real AC unit for supplemental cooling.

(More customer reviews)I got this gardenia bonsai in mid-February and it is not as I expected. Upon opening the package, the leaves are dull green, no buds, dried out and mostly dark brown. I followed the instruction and even did some research work through the internet. I even bought extra stuffs like plant food, cool mist humidifier just to revive the plant. Well now, after 3 weeks, 90% of the leaves are gone, branches bare, looks like those bare trees that you see during winter. I tried to contact the merchant and ask for advise, but I did not get any response. I have other bonsais and regular gardenias that are healthy and I really wanted this gardenia bonsai so bad.

Also the product arrived with a small scratch on the top. Cigars that I've stored in the product are fine, so again it meets my needs. By the way, except for the scratch, it is a good-looking humidor.

(More customer reviews)The Total Humidity Controller THC-1 humidistat unit is a dial selected humidifier/dehumidifier switch, used to activate a (de)humidifier plugged into it. I use mine with a Venta LW44 Airwasher humidifier to keep my cello humidified. While the switch works well, and the humidity level seems to correspond with the dialed value, it often takes a long time to come on, and the sensor makes a crackling, hissing noise while it is deciding if it needs to come on or not (the transition between off and on). This causes nearby electrical/radio interference while it is doing this. It is also quite expensive to be having such issues. I'm wondering if this is a bad unit or if all these units have this issue. A quick rap on the knob will cause it to come on, but remote controlled lights/ceiling fans and televisions will have interference issues while it is near its target humidity to turn on, and the crackling noise is annoying.

#1 The spatter mess - there is virutally no way to prevent splatter when using this pan creating an unneccessary amount of post-cooking clean-up.
#2 There is no option of purchasing a lid
#3 The pan itself has an odd rectangular shape that does not fit on one burner or two for that matter. Thus, somewhere while cooking you have a cool spot.

(More customer reviews)After 7 seasons of removing water from my dehumidifiers by hand I was ready to try a product like this.

The idea behind this product is simple.It works on the same principle as a sump pump.When the water reaches a certain point in the pumps well area,a quick burst of pumping action causes the water to flow up a hose and out to wherever you route the end of the hose-in my case through a drilled hole outside my basement area to the outside of my house.

Installation was easy enough.I simply cut the hose to my needed length,attached it to the unit,attached the other hose connection to my dehumidifiers hose connector (for condensation that comes out of the actual dehumidifier) and plugged the unit in.Let me mention(no laughing please)that I broke my nose during this simple installation by having too tight of a hole drilled to the outside for the outtake hose.I was pulling the hose with a needle nose plier to pull through the hole and ended up smashing my nose when the plier slipped and my knuckle came smashing on to my nose.I needed a nose job anyway...

Anyway,the unit works really well and now I can leave home for days at a time and know that my basement is at a safe 45% humidity level.Without the unit turned on it would be twice that amount at least.

Just be aware that the dehumidifier pump needs to be physically lower than the dehumidifier.The gravity will force the condensation down the hose in to the dehumidifier pump.I made the mistake of leaving both level with each other and found the the water was just building up and began running out on the the floor.

Besides the pliers hitting my face (I`ll remember it every time that pump turns itself on) and having to figure out that gravity needs to be used to make things work correctly, I am so happy with the results. If it lasts a few years it will be worth the 96 $ (shipping included) I paid for the pump.

Editors note- It is now Oct of 09` and the pump continues to work perfectly. It has been on for the last two seasons (Apr-Oct of 08 and 09) and still no problems.

Easy Sprout Sprouter Review

(More customer reviews)The Easy Sprouter is a great vertical sprouter. The seeds or beans go into an inner cup with drainage holes. The inner cup sets in the outer cup which catches any dripping water and still allows air circulation around the inner cup on all sides. Maintaining your growing sprouts (for most seed types) means holding the inner cup under running water for at least thirty seconds, allowing excess water to drain off, and setting the inner cup back in the outer cup. Doing this two or three times a day makes sure that the growing sprouts remain fresh enough to avoid spoiling, moist enough not to dry out, but never remaining in standing water. Most seeds need to be pre-soaked initially, and this step can be managed directly in the Easy Sprouter. There are three lids: two lock into place - one with air holes, one without. The third is domed, but doesn't actually lock onto the cup.

By comparison, sprouting in canning jars requires the jar to be filled and emptied several times with each rinsing, and draining sufficiently is not always easy. The Sprout Master, which is another sprouting tray I love, allows similar rinsing, but the seeds must be soaked in a different container and then transfered to the Sprout Master. The Sprout Master allows the growing plants slightly more light because it has width rather than height, but the difference is slight.

I've mostly used my Easy Sprouter for leafy sprout salad mixes (alfalfa, clover, etc...) These varieties take about a week to grow. With the variety of lids the sprouter it is very flexible. I haven't tried to sprout while traveling, but I'm confident that it would work well. It works for storing your grown sprouts in the fridge as advertised, but I usually take them out of the sprouter and break up the clumps before serving and put any left-overs into a different container. I use my Easy Sprouter nearly constantly, along with my Sprout Master mini trays. I currently have a second Easy Sprouter on order.

CALIBER III DIGITAL HYGROMETER 4 CIGAR HUMIDOR Review

Because of the cheap prices of most small hygrometers, I actually bought a couple of different ones. Well, this is the winner, hands down. It's incredibly accurate (both temperature and humidity) right out of the box, no calibration required.

Of course, the first thing I did upon receiving my hygrometers was test out the accuracy.The Caliber III was perfect right off the bat. The HygroSet II was the next closest (but not close enough), and finally the Analog Hygrometer was pretty far off. After calibrating the other two, they were much closer, but the Caliber III was the only one to stay consistent and accurate 100% of the time.

Considering the fact that it's actually cheaper than the HygroSet II, what's not to like about it?Well, okay maybe it's just slightly on the large side for some.I personally think it's fine.It's really not that big, but I guess there are smaller ones out there.However, as far as I'm concerned it is definitely the most accurate.

Santa Fe Whole Basement Dehumidifiers Review

That did the trick.Then about 2 years ago I noticed that the humidity seemed to be getting higher both in the basement and the upstairs.According to my gauges this was the case.Also it seemed like the unit was running more and more and doing less and less.Finally this spring I called customer service again.they gave me the name of 2 places here in Indianapolis to call.Both of them said it would be a minimum of [...] bucks to look for a problem.Both companies also told me they had not heard of Therma-Stor or the Sante Fe.I called a couple applicane repair places and no one would work on this unit.Today my air conditioning man was here and I asked him to look it over.He discovered that one of the refrigeratant lines was clogged.Because parts would have to be ordered he didnt want to work on this unit.I called customer service back and was told to call repair shops out of the phone book and they could order the needed parts!!My other option was to send it back and shipping was [....] bucks plus whatever parts and labor.For a very expensive dehumidifer I think the lousy service rates this unit as a DO NOT BUY!!I have been using a 70 pint unit I bought at a big box store here in Indy.And so far happy.You can buy alot of smaller units before you ever spend the [...] bucks for this one.For once more expensive was not the best.

Very bad company to do buisness with. Now I am stuck with a broken $200.00 unit. Steer clear of this compny as no one there will take your phone calls!!!! Poor product, Poor company!!!

We had to open the windows and turn on the attic fan just to clear it all out.I'm not sure why this happened.I followed the directions on the box (although it's 100% fool proof, all you have to do is place the filter in the base of the unit). We're actually better off without a filter and I'll be returning this for a refund.

(More customer reviews)I purchased the Soleus Air 1500-Watt Oil Radiator because I wanted a silent heat source for my bedroom, a heat source which would keep my bedroom warm and not disrupt my sleep. The Soleus radiator turned out to be a poor choice.

The radiator is quiet. It doesn't use any fans. The radiator's thermostat audibly clicks when turning the radiator's heat on and off, but the periodic clicking is not loud. The clicks do not disrupt my sleep.

Sadly, the radiator does not put out an adequate amount of heat. In the master bedroom, where the radiator is located, one might get a one or two-degree increase in temperature after operating the radiator for an hour, or more. I've tried placing the radiator three feet from my bed, which is the minimum distance from furniture specified in the operator's manual. I still couldn't detect any appreciable heat from the radiator.

If you're looking for a good space heater, keep looking! This radiator is not up to the task!

(More customer reviews)I received my v tower vaporizer a few days ago. After a frustrating first couple of days trying to find the right temperature to use, I called vapenow.com for some advice. I spoke with a real friendly guy there who gave me a few pointers for my next attempt. On his advice,I dialed the heat up to 250 celcius, which had seemed kind of high to me before, made sure to let it warm up for 15-20 minutes,and lo and behold, the vapors started flowing! Apparently, the temperature sensor records the heat closer to the heating unit, not where your material sits in the bowl. Even though the temperature readout will hit your desired mark in seconds, it's still best to wait 15-20 minutes before using so that the bowl can warm up too. if you don't have a grinder, you'll want to get one to make sure your material has more surface area for the heat to hit.also, a slow draw seems to keep the heat more even.
Otherwise, it seems like a very sturdy unit. Incredibly easy to use. The 360 degree whip action is a nice feature, and the connector for the whip sits in the bowl very snugly. Also, the bowl can be handled safely by touching the black heat resistant part only when in use.It's also pretty small, and could be transported pretty easily if you wanted to take it to a friend's house.

Using the bare leads at the right intensity setting can produce some pleasurable sensations when applied genitally. Better still is to use some creativity and modify it. The wire leads are useful with e-stim units for electrosex play after adapting the connector plug to make a good contact and separating the right length of the insulated wires near the stimulator end. It does take some creative thinking, but I have great fun with this thing as modified. As an electronic massage device, I give it a zero. As an erotic e-stim device after modifications, I give it five stars!

25-50 Cigar Humidor Starter Kit Review

(More customer reviews)This is what every person new to cigar smoking should start with and even those like myself who have mostly just bought fresh cigars every few days from a local shop over the years. The ashtray, carrying case and cutter alone would run you about the same price as the entire kit at a cigar shop so you can see the outstanding value of this kit. The box closes tight and has a good seal. You will have to or should calibrate the hygrometer. Mine was about 5 deg. off and that is very important if you're serious about preserving or aging your prized cigars.

My only two negative issues with this kit, although minor due to the cost were:

1. The stickers for attaching the humidifier and the hygrometer are very small and do not stick very well to the lid of the box and kept falling off so now they sit loose to one side on the bottom. Not a big problem for me as I don't keep the case full to capacity but for those who need the space it would be a big problem.

2. I tried to contact customer service for Cheap Humidors (the merchant selling this kit) about this to see if they had better stickers for attaching these items and my emails were never replied to. Their customer service by phone is an answering machine and you won't get any assistance that way either.

Overall though, I still recommend it until a person becomes a long term cigar smoker and/or gets more serious about their cigars.

Still no reply from Cheap Humidors's customer service but I'm sure they're getting right on it (SARCASM). Fortunately mine wasn't a major problem but just be advised before buying from this merchant if you ever do have a serious problem you will not get any assistance.Update 07/03/08

The new unit has a terrible noxious smell coming from the guts of the unit when turned on - seems like the plastic in the HEPA filter or motor oil in the electric motor. After running it a few days with no change I returned this unit and recieved a new one with the same problem. I also talked to the manufacturer, KAZ, since it seemed like they got a bad batch of filters.They were willing to provide a new unit if I paid for the shipping. The status of this unit is still unresolved.

I would not recomend this unit to anyone unless you can tolerate thesmell of noxious organic materials - such organic vapors could even be carcinogenic.

(More customer reviews)I have used the Xikar hygrometer for several months in various cigar humidors, and both the temperature and RH readings are extremely accurate (+/- few degrees or less) when compared against high-quality reference digital temperature and RH meters.The nicest feature is the simple calibration:let the unit sit in a sealed plastic bag with a small amount (15 mL) of moistened salt for 36 hours (many manuals specify 6-24 hours, but I have observed slow RH fluctuations of +/- 5 degrees during up to 24 hours - so I do 36 hours to be safe), and then push and hold the calibration button without opening the bag until the RH reading is a stable 75 F.Be careful not to accidently push the calibration button when handling the hygrometer (apart from calibration).

It will make your room a little cooler than a fan, but it wont make it really cold like a portable ac. I put alot of ice in there and it made it a little cooler. It has an ice box with ice gel inside. Basically you put that in your freezer and put it back in the box, and it keeps the water cold. The gel would keep it colder longer than ice. I didnt get to try the ice box yet, but itll definitely help For $99, its a great fan, but if you want it to be really cold, youll need a portable ac. if a fan is 4/10, then this would be a 6 or 7 with lots of ice, and a portable ac is 10/10. Im going to play with it more and see if I can get it to blow colder with the ice box. I think thatll make it alot better. hopefully this helps. If you buy at air-n-water you get free shipping on it and ANYTHING else you buy as long as its in your cart. I saved $50 on shipping my portable ac because I bought them together. I paid $89 for this with the code summer. Im pretty happy with it and im buying 2 more tonight, but ill stick with my portable ac in my room at night for some real "alaska" cold haha.

(More customer reviews)I LOVE these lights! I was skeptical at first but am back today to order yet another one. Do you have a dark room with no windows or just a dark corner of your house, put one of these on any table and viola!
Here's how it works:
Once you plug it in and set the season, winter, spring, summer or fall it's set. The light turns on and off after approx 12 hours on the spring setting, it will cycle through and go to summer then fall and winter and shortening the length of light hours to simulate sunlight. (just push the button back to spring if you want to grow violets)
Also there is a metal prong attached you can pop into your pot and it will tell you when you need to water by how far you put it in the soil,a light flashes on the back of the arm base when it's time to water. The prong is several inches long so push it all the way down for cactus, yes, these are working great for my cactus by keeping the light only 1-3 inches above the plant, or down just a tiny bit for a water loving plant like a peace lily. I can grow African violets like a champ by keeping it on the spring or summer setting. Oh, and you can fill the base with an inch or so of water if you want to create some humidity, just sit your pot on the raised bumps and keep the water below them. Tells you when to water, adds humidity if you want (works great for orchids) turns off and on automatically. It's a winner all around in my opinion. I bought four of these and am back for my fifth today. A nice plant on a stand with this light brightens the gloomiest corner. These are packaged well and would be a wonderful gift!

We own a country house, built around 1770.The basement has a stone foundation, hand-hewn wooden beams to support the floors above, and a dirt floor.Last fall, as part of my ongoing energy conservation projects, I installed fiberglass insulation in the basement ceiling to limit moisture transfer from the basement to the rest of the house, as well as to insulate from the cold.Summer has always left the basement damp, but this year the wet weather in the northeast has wreaked havoc.Rather than damp, this year we are dripping.The insulation is soaked, and condensation liberally drips off the insulated heating ducts.Between the disconcerting degree of condensation and providing a wonderful environment to grow mold, we needed remediation.

My home improvement center dehumidifier had ceased to be effective, and I was in the market for a new one.A friend showed me a brochure on industrial-strength units, which had me doing more research online.I saw the Santa Fe Classic, as well as others, and given the substantial cost versus the conventional dehumidifier, discussed the situation with my wife.After a particularly drenching few days of rain, and an even wetter environment in the basement, I put my research into high gear.I read positive reviews, spoke to the customer service folks at Therma-stor about my particular situation, and by the time my conversation was over, I was satisfied enough with them to call my supplier back to place an order.

The unit, made in the good old USA, was packaged extremely well on a skid and was placed outside my front door by the very accommodating shipping company.I removed the strapping and muscled it down into the basement.I purchased the optional condensate pump, which neatly attached via pre-drilled holes in the cabinet.Once the drain line was set, I plugged in the unit and let it go to work.Per Therma-stor's recommendation, I put down tarps to cover portions of the dirt floor to limit moisture, something that should have been done long ago, anyway.

There is a humidistat on the unit to set the desired humidity level.Unfortunately for me, and fortunately for the electric company, the basement conditions are such that the unit seems to be running 24/7.I left the unit running and when we returned the following weekend, the situation was nothing short of amazing.The ceiling insulation was dry, the insulation around the heating ducts were dry, even the dirt floor looked drier.In the past, we would walk into the house and get hit with a musty smell.This time, the smell was gone.Even with a few rain storms, when the first floor of the house would feel especially sticky and humid, the humidity levels were minimal.The neighbor with a house of similar vintage who originally gave me the brochure was astonished that our house was so dry given the conditions.Now he is looking into a similar solution.

Despite the considerable investment, the unit appears to do a terrific job of removing moisture.Our conditions are harsh, making it even more impressive.While I am looking to buy stock in the power company to at least share in the profits from heightened power usage, the improvement in conditions makes us feel great, conquering a problem we have suffered with for decades.We heartily recommend the Santa Fe Classic.

We normally leave our windows open so it vents a bit of fresh air but the problem is that humidity enters as well with the sea breeze. It got really damp in our apartment and so bad that I felt it every time I got in the blankets. I shopped around and found this dehumidifier online and thought it would be very helpful. When it came, no joke, it was like christmas. I tore it open with a twinkle in my eye and laughed with joy when I pulled it out. I read the instruction manual to make sure I didn't ruin anything and it was a simple 3-6 step process. I set it up in no time and plugged it in to the wall to see what this bad boy can do. Within 12 hours, this 25 Pint dehumidifier was full. It kept getting full for the next 4 days and now it is nice and dry in our 1 bedroom apartment. I really love it!

I gave it a five star because of its awesomeness and the vendors quickness in shipping. The product is amazing.

Be aware that this dehumidifier is no whisper technology machine. It is as loud as a portable fan but my wife loves it since she needs noise to help her fall asleep (drowns out our neighbors loud movie watching at 11 PM). Thanks Frigidaire, your the best!

The supplied scents do a good job of 'freshening' (actually scenting) the air throughout most of my 1500 square foot house.

The fan noise is noticeable, I usually run it five or ten minutes at a time to achieve the same effect as spraying an aerosol air freshener. The blue lights in the tank are good for a 'mood' effect and can be switched off if desired. If you just want to 'tune out' for a few, this thing is excellent. My spouse smokes cigarettes several times a day and the BRT-150 does a good job of covering up the odor from a cigarette.

I would not say that this unit is a humidifier. It will run for three or four hours continuously and maybe only use a cup of water. I would also not call this unit an air cleaner as such. It is an effective air freshener. The air coming out just smells and feels good.

I, honestly, purchased the BRT-150 so that I could disburse essential oils without having to use heat, nebulizers just seem way too strange and complicated to me.

My wife thought the citrus scent was a little overpowering so I experimented a little and came up with a fairly good recipe for using essential (fragrance) oils. My recipe will only freshen up the air in the room it is in, not the whole house (I don't know how they get that strong of a scent from the supplied material).

I borrowed/modified this from a perfumers recipe for making a spray-able air freshener with essential oils.

1/4 teaspoon Polysorbate 80 (an emulsifier derived from natural oils). You can get this from a soap maker's supply store.

30-60 drops essential oils, some oils are stronger, experiment for the best amount for your choice. I used 30 drops of pine needle oil and that worked fine for me.

1 tablespoon of cheap vodka (for low smell alcohol). This is optional but I found the oil's scent was more intense with it.

Mix the ingredients with a few ounces of water and add to the water to the freshener's filled tank. You will see the familiar white bloom in the water as you add this mixture.

(More customer reviews)It's fascinating to watch the multi-colored mildew grow on the crystals - once assembled this dehumidifier works well and is an inexpensive solution to a temporary problem. If I had an ongoing problem, I'd buy a real dehumidifier, and as it is, I'll never buy this product again. It's difficult to assemble without getting the beads all over the counter - which is worrisome because I have no idea what sort of chemical this is, and if you get it on your hands, it leaves an odd dry sliminess that's difficult to wash off. The same is true for the liquid the product soaks up - again, amazing, it becomes full of water and can be surprisingly much fuller than you realize. The first time I picked one up to discard it, I ended up spilling some of the "water" on my floor, hands and clothes, all of which was difficult to wash out.

Upshot is, it works. But it's chemically messy.

The Air Cleaner Replacement Element I ordered from Amazon was original equipment and I was able to install it myself in less than 30 minuites.I had to order two elements because of boxing and transportion problems but no big deal as I now have one media in reserve.

I admit I had done it before and had some trouble because I tried to install it without reading the instructions are on the box.They must be followed very very carefully.You must have very good lighting because the instructions on box are dim and the instructions on black plastic of Air Cleaner itself are difficult to see.Two things to watch out for:Step 4 removing pleat spacers. They snap into holes and do not twist as instructions say.Merely apply pressure upward and pull them out of snap-in holes.Second problem area is Step 8 where you have to unsnap the edges which hold the element.Aprilaire has a special Figure 4 drawing for this and you should look at it verycarefully because it is critical.If you follow the instructions carefully you will have no problem installing the media. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO INSTALL WITHOUT READING THE INSTRUCTIONS.The company that would normally install the element in my home charges $50 just to come to home plus $75 per hour for installation charge and full retail price for the replacement element. It is definately a lot cheaper and easier ordering the element from Amazon and doing the job yourself.It was also nice to have the media delivered to my doorstep rather than drive to the distributer in rush hour traffic and pay full retail price.

If you do the same remember to "read the instructions carefully" before attempting the replacement.If you try to replace the element without reading the instructions you will have trouble -- I guarantee it.

When I received my delivery from Filters-Now, it contained 4 filters, or about 50% higher cost per filter.I won't go through the heated discussion that I had with Filters-Now, but I will say that ultimately Filters-Now sent me 2 more filters for free.Filters-Now said that Amazon asks them and other dealers to bid on what they will sell a filter for, but Amazon writes the ads.I tried to contact Amazon but was unable to reach an Amazon service representative, as the links kept steering me to Filters-Now.The ad has now been partially rewritten so it no longer reads as it did when I purchased my filters.It now implies you are getting a single filter (based on price) and allows you to select the size you want.You will note that under the pull down for size, it does not have a 24X30X1 size offered (which is the size I ordered), but if you scroll down to Product Details, it still says it is "24X30X1" and under the Product Description, it still says "........so grab a 6-pack and at least you'll have a fighting chance." You will also note that the new vendor is not Filters-Now, but is National Allergy.I can only assume that Amazon has got a new vendor to sign up to sell under this misleading advertisement.Bottom line, I am very disappointed with Amazon for this ad and to a lesser extent Filters-Now, who agreed to sell under this misleading ad.Again: Buyer Beware, you may get any size and any quantity!! (PS.Since I originally wrote this review,I have talked to a couple of Amazon Reps and they said that they will correct the misleading data in the ad, but as of 9/29/10 it is still misleading)

(More customer reviews)I use this HEPA machine in my bedroom 24/7.It's helped dramatically with my many allergies (I just found out the allergies are causing my asthma that I've had for 9 months).
The only gripe I have with this machine is that it states that it's "Quietcare".On high, this thing is pretty loud!
However, I had a more inexpensive model (I think it was Honeywell 50010) and it was deafening, so this is an improvement.
Otherwise, this machine is giving me EXCELLENT results.I can sleep through the night without my eyes watering or dry mouth.It's improved my breathing (my family tells me 'I sound better') and helped with my snoring problems.At the price they're selling it for here, I'd pick one up.If noise bothers you just keep it on the low setting.
It really is a good product!

(More customer reviews)I purchased this air filter a few weeks ago. Apart from being very noisy, it was totally ineffective. After running for two weeks, the filter still has not collected any dust! I didn't research enough before buying an air purifier, but now realize that HEPA is the only way to go if you actually want to purify your air, not just move it around.

UPDATE

As a replacement purifier I purchased the Honeywell 17000 HEPA QuietCare Air Cleaner (see my review of this product).It works much better and actually removes particles etc from the air really well.

I tried selling my IFD fiter on E-Bay but no one would buy it - not even for 3 dollars!What a POS!

(More customer reviews)Very happy with this filter system. It really works to clean smoke from the house. Our house has been closed up for about the past month, running the air. Usually, we get enough cool weather to open windows an night... not this year. Running the variable fan on my furnace constantly on very low and as the air kicks in, I can't even tell we've been smoking as we come in from outside. Very Good!

I had turnd off (unpluged) the electrostatic part for a (I'd thought) day... forgot I'd done it and it went a few weeks before the smoke smell forced me to check it. A few days after repluging it in, the house was clean again (no residual smoke signature)! Had it 6 months or so and will probably replace the filter for first time in another month or 2, since I run it constantly this summer.

(More customer reviews)I receivedmy humidor around a month ago and was excited to start using it. Now I was unable to use it right away since like all other humidors it had to be "seasoned". This process took around 5 days to complete,and once done I was able to put in my cigars. I was able to fit 50 cigars with ease as the product described.

The only negative that I have is the analouge hygrometer, it was a bit difficult to calibrate (even using the salt calibration method) and i just did not trust the reading. I invested an additional $20 for a digital hygrometer and my humiodor has been maintained at 75-80% humidity.

I would definitely recommend this humidor for any first time owners, to be able to gain experience and perhaps move up one day. As for myself I am happy with the one I have and can see me owning it for quite awhile

(More customer reviews)I am very pleased with the Aprilaire Space-Gard 201 Replacement Filter.I suffer from many airborne allergies and this filter has helped me avoid the use of an inhaler for a few seasons.In San Antonio, TX the pollen is year round, unfortunately, it means I cannot open my house to the breeze but living in filtered air is so much better for me.
This filter is very easy to install.It lasts as long as I would expect, and it works like I expected.This is my 2nd purchase of this filter through Amazon.
Amazon shipped it in a timely manner and I am pleased.

(More customer reviews)I've been using Jon-e handwarmers for over 15 years. The handwarmer never fails to do it's job either, and I normally get about 16 hours out of each fill-up.

Here's how it works: You take the removable main (flameless) wick top off of the handwarmer and fill the unit with fluid. Do not overfill! Place the flameless wick back on warmer and let it sit for a few minutes so that the fluid distributes itself evenly. Make sure there is no fluid on the outside of the warmer, if there is, simply wipe it off thoroughly. Light the "lighting wick" of the warmer, which is the small wick at the base of the flameless wick. Allow this wick to burn for a minute or two so that the flameless wick gets a chance to start glowing. Once the flameless wick is glowing, extinguish the lighting wick and place the top back on the warmer. Let the warmer sit upright for a few minutes to warm up before placing it in the flannel pouch. Now you are ready to keep those hands toasty warm.

It sounds like a lot of steps to use, but really it isn't. It's easy and simple, and actually takes less time to get going than the 20-30 minutes it takes for a chemical-pouch warmer to reach full operating temperature.

You have to remember that this warmer uses a glowing wick to burn fuel to create warmth, so you have to let it breathe every so often to keep it burning. This requires oxygen to keep it going, so if the warmer starts losing too much warmth, which normally will happen when it's kept in your pocket for a while, simply take the warmer out of your pocket, slide the top out of the felt pouch and set it upright in the open air for 5 or 10 minutes. This will allow the warmer to get more oxygen and start burning good again. Then all you do is pull the flannel pouch back over it and it's good to go for quite a while longer.

As for the odor it produces, it is no stronger nor any different from that of a Zippo lighter. If you overfill it and it leaks fluid then the smell will be stronger, but if used properly and not overfilled, the odor is not bad at all, and is easy to get used to. I find this type of warmer much more comforting to use than the little plastic chemical packs, because with these you can grab them tight with hands to get warm quick, without fear of them breaking, bursting, or the chemical contents leaking out all over the place. The metal housing is very sturdy and the flannel pouch is nice and soft to the touch.

Hunter 82042 Energy Star Bathroom Fan with Light, White Review

- There is no way to turn off the night light. I assumed it would turn off when it was light in the room, but it does not. You can get a $2 night light that turns on/off with a light sensor, so why can't they put such a sensor on a $150 fan? I replaced the 4w incandescent night light with an LED since you can't turn it off and I don't want to have to replace the thing every month.

- The housing is not designed for installation into an existing hole. The hole needs to be much bigger than the housing due to the duct attachment point and very deep housing. I had to remove the duct and re-install with much difficulty once the housing was in place in the ceiling. The housing is 8" deep, making it a tight or even impossible fit in any place except a top floor bath.

- The grille is approximately 12x13 at the largest point, and the grille is curved, so it is about 10x11 at the corners. The 14.75" x 14.75" shown in the manufacturer's description might be including the box it came in. I don't know where they got that measurement.

- The light bulbs are low energy CFL with a two-prong conductor that I have never seen before. I checked my local big box store and could not find a replacement bulb. I hope the bulbs last a long time. What's wrong with a normal light bulb fixture?

- The design is ugly, kind of like a bulging belly sticking to your ceiling.

I specifically selected this model based on the advertised grille dimensions, hoping to cover up the hole from the old fan. Had I been able to get my hands on the thing in a store, I would never have purchased it. There was no store within 100 miles that had this fan, so I purchased based on the description. Amazon/manufacturer need to accurately describe the items they sell.

This is a disappointing purchase, especially at this price, but I decided to go ahead with the install since I have to assume that the other descriptions will be just as inaccurate and our old fan was already pulled. 2 stars only because it is very quiet.

Having spent a lot of $$$ in humidifiers/ozone/air purifiers & co., I decided to test the use of this relatively inexpensive machine, using a different fragrance (even if the instructions specifically forbid this). Worst case scenario, I figured, I've thrown $50 down the drain (surely not for the last time!)
I found that you can pour in just a teaspoon or so of Mrs. Meyer's Ironing spray (love their smells), fill the tank up with water as usual and...

BOOM! Just kidding...

My Homedics has worked just fine for a month, now. A full size bottle of Mrs. Meyer's ironing spray is way cheaper than the Homedics refill... and you can't beat the smells of geranium, basil, lavender or lemon verbena. Try it yourself, but I warn you... I said to use the ironing spray which is a liquid, non-foaming solution. Other products, especially essential oils won't work or may clog your machine.
Once you try this, you'll be excited at the prospect of using the Homedics without being hooked to the purchase of so-so fragrances that are way too expensive, and not that enjoyable (according to my husband's nose!)

There, problem solved, my husband's nose is now finally satisfied!

Problem is, it doesn't work that well. The included humidifier didn't seem to maintain consistency, and my cigars were drying out fast. I bought a DryMistat humidifier, and it worked much better, but I think the seal isn't tight, as the humidity fluctuates a good deal.

Good for smokers who only keep a few cigars on hand, and don't mind them drying out, but you may want to look at an alternative if you really want to keep cigars for a long time.

When I called the company they were VERY friendly.Until I finally got to the point that I wanted to return the unit.They stayed friendly, asking for 21.95(until cost $29 new) shipping and handling.When I expressed anger, they offered to sell me several bigger and new units for a discount.

(More customer reviews)I bought my first Holmes HEPA air filtering machine more than a decade ago, and have been satisfied enough not to have bought any other brand since then, although I have had four Holmes air filter machines since then.

The first model I bought (I think it was the 220) is apparently discontinued, but it would be no exageration to call it a life-saver.I bought my first one because I lived in a house with a HEAVY chain smoker.Even though rated for only a single small room, that little sucker grabbed enormous amounts of smoke and the white paper on the filter blackened within weeks from particulate cancer-causing material which it saved me from inhaling.The next two filter machines I bought for a house which was infested with black mold.The one closest to the worst mold area blackened very quickly, while the second one, further from the mold, only grayed somewhat in the same time period -- the filter was very obviously cleaning potentially deadly black mold spores from the air.

The model I have now uses the HAPF30 replacement, and it is doing "light duty" compared to the first three I owned.I would have given this five stars except that I have the very distinct impression that this particular filter replacement is less efficient than the earlier ones I owned -- the filter has grayed with use, but I don't have the impression that the color change has been due entirely to grabbing airborne pollutants; I suspect (but don't have any evidence) that the filter is catching carbon which is being blown forward by the fan or else is catching dust which the negative ions generated by the machine itself have caused to fall.

Despite my suspicion that this is less efficient than earlier models, I still rate it four stars because I know that it is filtering SOMETHING out of the air, and I trust the Holmes brand -- they have earned my confidence through many years of arduous work.(I've never experienced any mechanical problems with one, either, until long, long after the warranty has expired.These things are real workhorses.)If the fans on the machines are kept to low settings they are fairly quiet, but at high speed they genrate quite a bit of noise, which can be a blessing in itself since the machine can act as a "white noise" generator to mask *noise* pollution, too.

(More customer reviews)I have owned this purifier for 9 months with no problems whatsoever.I find it very powerful and very effective in trapping dust in a large room but I actually use two of them in my living/diningroom of my apartment. I also use itin my bedroom where the area is smaller. I find it is quiet on every setting except the highest which isn't needed when sleeping. The larger the room, expect to change the filter more often. When having only one located in the livingroom, I was changing the carbon filter 3-4 times a year and the Hepa filter about 3 times a year.My advice would be that if you have rugs, vacuum often-this will prolong the use of the filter and control for dust. Update: August 24th 2009. I continue to own three of these machines and all are still going strong.Filters are expensive, but I am still sticking with them because they work so well.Using the purifiers only when home and turning them off when not will obviously also help to save on overuse of filters as well as changing the carbon filters more often (which are a lot cheaper to replace)
Update: I continue to own two of these and still going strong.The only technical problem has been the filter light which is supposed to turn red when the filter needs changing. The light doesn't work, but the purifier operates as well as it did two years ago.

(More customer reviews)We've been running two of these units at home for six months now.The amount of garbage they pull out of the air is amazing.The unit is reasonably quiet on setting 2 and much too loud on 3.I'm not sure it is moving enough air on setting 1 to accomplish much.

The only disappointment is the high price of the filters -- if you can find them.Online sources are much more reasonable, but availability seems spotty.I'm hoping this will improve moving forward.

(More customer reviews)I bought this to control the temp of my mini-fridge that I use to lager beer in.Basically you plug this unit into the wall and plug your fridge's power plug into it.The thermostat probe is placed inside the fridge and basically shuts off the power to the unit when a certain temp is reached.Because of the way this unit works, you have to set your fridge to the coldest setting. This unit would also be great to turn a deep freezer into a fridge.

Keep in mind if your fridge isn't capable of getting to the temp you set then it will run all the time and possibly damage the compressor on your fridge.Also keep in mind the probe placement is important.If you put the probe in the fridge next to where the cold air blows into the compartment, its going to kick off the fridge before the entire compartment has reached the right temp.

Honeywell Easy Fit-n-Set Replacement Air Filter - 40190 Review

(More customer reviews)The theory behind this refill is that there is one perforated filter per box that can be broken in half for use as 2 filters with the Honeywell 40100 series air purifier.

That, at least, is the theory...

In reality, the filter is perforated as advertised; however, there is so much glue along the perforation holding the accordion folds together, that it is virtually impossible to break the filter in half.

I tried to break it by just flexing the perforation, as the directions indicated.It didn't separate.I tried flexing it harder and bending it back and forth to break them apart.The glue started separating at the folds.The glue coming apart caused the filter to open up at some of the accordion folds, so the filter was no longer round.I tried a knife to cut the two filters apart.Ditto on breaking up the accordion folds.Finally resorted to a hacksaw to separate them.

The only bright thing of the whole fiasco - they did finally work when I crammed them into the units.

After effectively almost destroying the filters I called the manufacturer (Honeywell) and they indicated that these are not the filters that they sell.They are an aftermarket item with the Honeywell logo.Honeywell does not endorse them.Surprise, surprise!They recommended that you only buy the replacement HEPA filters sold on the Honeywell website for the model 40100 air cleaner.I second that recommendation -- wholeheartedly!

(More customer reviews)I have to concur with the guy that knows what the products intended usage is. This product is not meant to keep a constant 70/70. It is meant to push the humidor past 70 and then you use one of their 69 or 72 packs to keep it around 70.

If you use this system I would suggest you buy the calibration pack, the seasoning pack and 2 of each % packs for each 50 cigar humidor you will use.

Actually, make that a calibration pack for each humidor you own. A seasoning pack for every 50 cigars you own. And finally, one of each % pack for each humidor you own plus, one more of each pack for every 50 cigars you own.

When done you can pretty much be rest assured everything will sit evenly for months.

(More customer reviews)I bought this through Target--their reviews said it was great!It seemed to dehumidify, although slowly.However, I was concerned that the "brick" on the AC cord was hot, so hot that I couldn't hold it for more than a few seconds.I found out online that such a problem could be a fire hazard!I called the company, Sunpentown, and they mailed out another cord with the instructions that if this one was also abnormally hot (which it was), I should mail the whole unit back (which I did). Sounds like they've had this problem more than once before. The replacement unit also has a really hot cord. So I suppose this merry-go-round will continue until they hopefully refund my money.

(More customer reviews)I got this to use when I had a cold.I should have been warned by the non-medicated label on this thing, but I thought at least the vapors would be good.What I got was a pathetic little fan that blows a sort of eucalyptus smell out all night.It does me almost not good.

It runs off of two AAA batteries, generally lasting a few nights.I like the smell the fan puts out, so it's pleasant or I'd give it one star, but as for any kind of healing properties this was just worthless to me.Literally, the only other good thing I can say about this is that it was cheap.

(More customer reviews)I live in California in the Bay Area. Not much humidity and the weather is typically pretty mild but it does get pretty hot in the summer (90+ degrees). I received the unit on a particularly hot day recently and I ran out and grabbed a bag of ice because i wanted to test this things cooling capability. I set it up next to my computer desk and turned on the cool air function. I was sitting about 5 feet from it and in 5 minutes my arm was freezing cold. I was perfectly comfortable the whole day but if i moved from the fan at all the heat was unbearable. This thing does not cool a room but it will cool the area directly in front of it. Once it cooled down a bit I emptied the water (which was made very easy due to the lightness of the unit) into my bathroom sink and used it that night as a normal fan. Its pretty quiet and the fan is powerful. Ive heard these swamp coolers can generate a musty smell so I make sure to empty it of water when I'm done using the cool air function. I only fill it with water when its extremely hot because the fan works fine for me most days. It's a very nice unit and it's exactly what I was looking for. Better than a fan and more efficient that an air conditioner.

(More customer reviews)I was reluctant to purchase the Honeywell filter for my Dirt Devil because of the review stating it was shipped in white paper.I ordered two, both came in the standard Honeywell packaging pictured, so I was very glad about that.These filters used to be sold by Walmart for about $20. The filters are much better quality than the ones Walmart is selling now (Arm & Hammer) for the same $20. These Honeywell filters are the closest ones I have found to the originals and they are good for one year as opposed to six months for Arm & Hammer filters.And this is the cheapest price I have found for a good quality filter.
